The absence of Cortalim panchayat members during Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s recent visit in Cortalim has led to yet another verbal bout between Cortalim Panchayat Dy Sarpanch Raymond Desa and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha.
Alleging there was absolutely no development in Cortalim Constituency, De Sa accused Saldanha of selective development works in panchayat wards of her supporters.
“Saldanha would be seen with Sancoale Panchayat members at all inspections in Cortalim constituency. Why was there no member from Cortalim Panchayat during the inspections, especially in Cortalim,” asked De Sa.
Desa also claimed that no Cortalim panch member was present during the recent inspection by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in Cortalim.
“There is absolutely no development in our village and Saldanha has only blocked our works. My works have been blocked and when followed up with PWD, I was informed that the works could be carried out by Saldanha.”
“Every year, the PWD would de-silt gutters, but this time the MLA is involved in selective work. In one area on the same road, the gutter on one side is de-silted while the other side, gutter works have been ignored despite informing Saldanha’s office.”
Saldanha was quick to hit back at De Sa, stating that despite several calls by her to the Cortalim sarpanch and other panch members, none of them had come for the inspection while the chief minister visited Cortalim for the first time.
“The panchayat body went for a picnic despite informing them about the CMs visit in Cortalim,” said Saldanha.
Saldanha said de-silting works were carried out by the PWD and due to shortage of labourers, had completed only urgent works which could cause gutter blockage.
“I had absolutely no role to play in any works and the question of selective works does not arise at all.”
“Newly elected Sarpanch Angela Furtado has, till date, has not visited my office and De Sa had approached me several times only for personal works and not development works,” the MLA added.
