For more than a year now, this high mast has not been working despite being an important junction connecting North and South Goa.
Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Manu made it clear that the lamp did not come under the preview of the electricity department, since it was the property of the tourism department.
Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha while admitting that it has been difficult to repair such high mast lamps for want of equipment, said she had repaired it earlier.
“This time too, I will seek help of the fire brigade since they have a big ladder which will come handy to repair the lamp,” Saldnaha said, adding that she was told that the new high mast lamps have in-built provisions to climb the lamps in case of any problems.
In fact, the Verna Police Inspector had also expressed unhappiness over that the non-functioning of the high mast lamp at Cortalim.
“When the area is in darkness, there are chances of criminal activities taking place and criminals exploit such situations,” PI Parab said.
