Merciana Vas, former Cortalim deputy sarpanch and wife of Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, will file her nomination for the ZP election from Cortalim on Thursday.
Sources confirmed that Vas will file her nomination at Ravindra Bhavan along with her supporters for the vacant post after former Cortalim ZP Anton Vas went on to get elected as the Cortalim MLA.
“Cortalim MLA Anton Vas has been recovering from dengue and there was some uncertainty over the next candidate which had to be finalised,” said a source.
“Vas, however, had a meeting at his home on Wednesday, which was attended by a large number of supporters and some panch members, sarpanchas and dy sarpanchas of various panchayats in Cortalim constituency.”
“While there were many probable candidates, the supporters unanimously decided on Merciana Vas, considering the close rapport of the Cortalim MLA with the people in the area.”
“We are unsure if Cortalim MLA Anton Vas will accompany his wife to Ravindra Bhavan, but it is now confirmed that Merciana Vas will file her nomination for the vacant post of ZP from Cortalim,” said the source.
