Officials of Dilip Buildcon Limited (DBL) have assured to install barricades to prevent construction debris sliding on an internal road at Nauta, after a joint site inspection was conducted by Cortalim Panchayat on Friday.

According to sources, several people had complained to Cortalim Panchayat about construction of slabs by DBL on Communidade land near Peacock Valley in Nauta-Cortalim. Acting on the complaints, the panchayat sent letters to authorities concerned, inviting them to a joint site inspection.

Locals had also complained that construction debris dumped by the roadside would slide down on the internal road, hindering movement of motorists and pedestrians.

During the joint site inspection by the Cortalim panchayat, highway authority and DBL officials, it was found that DBL and highway authorities had legal permission and hence, they had not approached local authorities.

However, when the issue of dumping debris came up, DBL officials assured the sarpanch to barricade the roadside to prevent the debris from sliding on the road.

Speaking to reporters, Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira said a lot of mud and debris had been dumped by the roadside. “People had complained that DBL has been dumping the debris, but they and highway authorities claimed to have had the permission from the communidade and hence, had did not approach local authorities,” said Pereira.

“DBL officials have, however, assured us to barricade the roadside area to prevent the debris from coming on roads, as it could cause major problems during the forthcoming monsoons,” said Periera.

Speaking to reporters Panch Fransisco Mendes said he was happy that the sarpanch had conducted a joint inspection and that, DBL had agreed to take remedial steps to avoid problems for locals.
