The sarpanch and panch members of Cansaulim panchayat have extended full support to Merciana Vas, wife of Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, who is contesting the ZP bye-poll elections from Cortalim.Addressing a corner meeting in Cansaulim on Wednesday, Sarpanch Savio Pereira said Merciana Vas would bring in a lot of development works as the ZP of Cortalim.
"We have seen work of Anton Vas as ZP and he has achieved 100 per cent of his manifesto as the ZP in 2015. After he became the Cortalim MLA, he had to resign as the ZP and we have now endorsed the candidature of his wife for the ZP elections,” said Pereira.
Former sarpanch and sitting panch, Jose Maria Furtado, said they have decided to support Merciana Vas.
"We are elected representatives and we have to stand by the decision of our people. As a former sarpanch, I have seen how Anton Vas took up development works and grew to be the MLA from the grassroots.”
“We now have to elect someone who has the same connect with the people and can take up works like him and there is no better candidate then his wife Merciana Vas who has been with him all these years and supported him to take up the development works as the ZP.”
“She has political experience and we will support her because it will help people get their works done with her husband as MLA of the Constituency," said Furtado.
