Mapusa attack: Suspect arrested by police

MAPUSA

Mapusa police has arrested Babu alias Pradip Chowgule on charges of attacking Parashuram Chawan with a knife, after the duo entered into a quarrel on the removal of a two-wheeler.
The incident took place near Prakash General Store at Ektanagar-Mapusa on Sunday at about 8.45 pm and the suspect, who was absconding after the incident, was arrested by police late Thursday night. He has been remanded to five-day police custody by the court.
The quarrel began when the victim, Parashuram Chawan, reportedly ignored the request of Pradip Chowgule, who had parked his two-wheeler in front of the car.
As Chowgule did not pay any heed to Chawan’s request to remove the two-wheeler and give way to the car, Chawan himself tried to remove the two-wheeler.
At that moment, the two-wheeler owner Chowgule is alleged to have attacked Chawan with a knife and stabbed him in the back and in the stomach. Chowgule later fled from the site.
Chawan is being treated at GMC hospital and his condition is reported to be serious.
The nephew of the victim, Sunil Chawan, lodged a complaint in the Mapusa police station and acting on the complaint, the police later arrested Chowgule. PI Ashish Porob is investigating the matter.
