MARGAO
How would the Margao Municipal Council overcome the space crunch in the heritage building with a host of cupboards stacked in the building corridors and passages for want of space?
This question may come back to haunt the councillors, the Municipal babus and the powers that be controlling the civic body as the MMC has forwarded a revised plan to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) for the construction of the long-delayed multi-level parking project.
With the project coming just behind the Municipal building coupled with the fact that the heritage building is facing space constraint, questions are being asked in the Municipal corridors whether the councillors and babus will shift all the old records and documents to the top floor of the multi-level parking lot and protect these records for posterity.
A senior official in private admitted that since the Margao Municipality has no other space close to the existing building, the Council should treat the multi-parking lot as an annex building and shift all the old records and documents on the vacant top floor of the proposed parking project.
After a hue and cry, the mysterious and controversial proposal to set up a restaurant on the top floor of the multi-level parking lot seemed to have been finally dropped. Officials in private say it is now open for the councillors to take a resolution to notify the top floor of the multi-level parking lot to house all cupboards stacked with old documents.
