MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council came under the scanner of the City Fathers and citizens over the fleet of vehicles lying at the Municipal garage at Old market, with complaints of non-availability of the vehicles even to lift away dry grass from the roadsides.
Even as the MMC old market garage played host to a fleet of Municipal trucks, including garbage trucks, City Councillor Vitorino Tavares demanded to know how come vehicles are not available for the workers to lift away the dry grass and waste.
He has demanded to know whether the fleet of vehicles lying in the Municipal garage are road worthy or are lying in the garbage as scrap. “If the vehicles are due for condemnation, the civic body should immediately dispose of the same as some of the vehicles at the garbage have turned an eyesore” , he said.
He added: “If the vehicles are in good condition, they should be made at the disposal of the garbage and road workers so that they are used for the lifting of the dry waste and grass piled up along the road sides”.
Tavares further demanded to know the fate of the Council’s decision to knock the doors of the Supreme Court to get an order for the registration of the three BS4 compliant trucks, which have been lying in the municipal garbage for the last three years.
