Work on the demolition of the unsafe building in the old Hospicio complex will cost the exchequer a whopping Rs 40 lakh.
The PWD has prepared estimates for the demolition of the three-storied annex building inside the Hospicio hospital based on a requisition made by the Director of Health Services.
Sources in the PWD, however, pointed out that work on the demolition of the unsafe building will be taken up by the agency only after the Health department deposits the funds required to raze down the unsafe building.
Incidentally, the three-storied building, which had earlier housed the Hospicio casualty and wards, was declared unsafe by the PWD over half a decade ago.
The unsafe building, however, has been standing tall inside the old Hospicio complex for reasons best known to the health authorities, which had in the past rushed to vacate the building on the plea the building has been declared unsafe
