MARGAO: Misappropriation of Margao Municipal funds of the Holy Spirit Church feast fair by a Municipal employee in the month of May came back to haunt the Civic Body as Councillors on Tuesday demanded to know the status of recovery of the money.
At the Margao Municipal Council meeting held on Tuesday, Chairperson Damu Shirodkar had to face a volley of questions from the Councillors over the status of recovery of the money from the employee and the future course of action.
With the police still yet to arrest the employee, the Civic Chief explained that the employee has been place under suspension, adding that apart from the Rs three lakh the employee had paid to the Municipality, the balance amount of Rs 14 lakh is yet to be recovered.
When asked over the future course of action, Damu said the Council has sought advise from the panel of Municipal lawyers how to go about the termination of the employee as well as the recovery of the misappropriated funds.
Meanwhile, Councilor Shagun Naik drew attention of the Chairperson how the Municipality had registered two births with the same registration numbers. He demanded an inquiry into the matter in the interest of the two parties. The Chairperson has promised to call both the parties as part of the investigations.
