Counting in 11 p’yats to be held on July 2

Counting of votes in 11 village panchayats, which includes the ten panchayats in which certain wards will go to the polls on July 1 as well as the panchayat where a candidate passed away during the campaigning will be held on July 2.

“The counting for all the wards in those villages where some wards are yet to vote will be held together on July 2. This is being done so that the results of other wards of that village do not influence the voters of the remaining ward,” State Election Commissioner R K Srivastava said.
Polling in Ward No. of of Curca Bambolim Telaulim, Ward No. 6 of Merces, Ward No 1 of Anjua Caisua, Ward No. 1 of Bastora, Wards Nos 8 and 9 of Penha da França, Ward No. 6 and 7 of Betqui Candola, Ward No. 5 of Advalpal, Wards Nos. 3, 5 and 7 in Salcete, Ward No. 10 in Nuvem and Wards No. 5 and 6 in Sancoale will be held on July 1 as well as one ward of Cavorim Chandor where a candidate passed away during the campaign period resulting in a countermanding of the election.
Meanwhile the ward of Morlem panchayat where no nomination was filed, will be filled through a bye election to be held later.

Uproar over ballot papers at Rachol

Elections for the Rachol village Panchayat was marked by uproar, resulting in a brief stop in the polling after a candidate and his supporters alleged that polling officials, including the Presiding officer, deliberately folded the ballot papers horizontally to render the votes invalid.
