Additional Sessions Court Judge of Mapusa, Vijaya Pol pronounced the judgement on Thursday after convicting Advaya Kuntainavar alias Swamy, a native of Belagavi, in the murder case.
The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict and failure to pay the penalty to undergo additional imprisonment of
three months.
According to prosecution, it was a premeditated murder and the accused killed his wife in a most inhuman manner by pouring diesel and setting her on fire.
Public Prosecutor, Sunita Nagvenkar represented the State, while the accused was represented by Adv R Naik.
It may be recalled that the accused, Advaya Kuntainavar alias Swamy, had poured diesel on his wife and set her ablaze in June, 2013, at Chopdem-Pernem. After setting her on fire, the accused ran away.
The victim, wife of the accused, Kamla Patil Kuntainavar suffered severe burn injuries and after a couple of days died in the hospital.
Pernem police reported in the investigation.
