A superb header by striker Arjun helped Churchill Brothers Sports Club to edge past Salgaocar FC 1-0 in an ill-tempered encounter of GFA's Under 20 Taca Goa League at Varca grounds, on Tuesday. There was no score at lemon-break.

The home side were on the back foot for major period of the game as, Salgaocar FC played with a more attacking intent. Churchill Brothers created a flutter in the very 2nd minute when striker Edrilich Coelho ballooned over from hand-shaking distance much to the dismay of Churchill Brothers supporters.

After minor scare, Salgaocar Football Club threatened time and again but were unable to make the most of their chances, Salgaocar FC had a couple of scoring chances but strikers Naro Hari Shreshta and Myron Borges muffed sitters at regular intervals. Crossing over, Churchill Brothers went ahead in the 47th minute when Arjun nodded home off a well executed cross from Raman and the former thumped a header past Salgaocar's Avinash Rao for what would have proved to be the match winner. After that setback, Salgaocar were more dominant and nearly found the equalizer but Myron Borges' snap shot was well blocked by Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Swisforn D'Silva.

In the 50th minute , Salgaocar striker somehow skied in front of rival goal with a clear chance. Naro Hari Shrestha nearly fetched the equalizer but Churchill goalkeeper Swisforn D'Silva came to his side's rescue when he palmed away the volley after Samuel Costa laid him on the platter. Salgaocar were unlucky midway in the second half when Liston Colaco's rasping shot hit the post much to the dismay of Salgaocar supporters. Both the teams suffered a jolt when Basant Rai of Churchill Bros and Naro Hari Shreestha of Salgaocar were ejected by referee Seby Moraes.

As the game reached its closing stages, the pressure from Salgaocar in search of equalizer and Churchill Bros defenders soaked up the pressure and held on for a win. Earlier, in the injury time, Salgaocar had a golden chance to neutralize the lead but Jaison Barbosa blasted wide from close range. With this win, Churchill Bros collected seven points from five matches while Salgaocar stayed at 13 points from six matches.
