Court grants bail to Marcaim murder accused

Goa Children’s Court has granted bail to Nikhil Kumar (19), a native of Bihar, who has been accused of murdering Sujata Naik (17) at her home in Ladewada, Marcaim in September 2016.

The bail was granted on medical grounds after defence counsel Amey Prabhudessai argued that Kumar was not being given proper medical treatment in jail. Adv Prabhudessai argued that Kumar had developed an infection around the gunshot wound on his stomach due to unhygienic conditions at the jail. It was prayed that Kumar’s condition would worsen if he was not shifted to hospital immediately.   
The prosecution argued that if the accused was released on bail then he would try to harm himself again.
