Covid 2nd wave: Oppn guns for govt over bed shortage

PANAJI

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Aam Aadmi Party Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre on Monday voiced the demand for transparency in the information provided to the general public about Covid management.

The two opposition parties have asked the Health Department to disclose on a daily basis the status of Covid bed availability in government and private hospitals to ensure that families do not have to scramble in panic to secure medical attention to their loved ones.

“This will prevent chaos and fake news. The government needs to issue daily statements on the Covid scene in Goa, about oxygen availability, shortage of vaccines and medicines, if any. A regular public release will ensure that the general public is in the know of the current status,” Kamat said repeating a demand he had voiced last week.

AAP Goa convenor Mhambre also demanded that the CM should make a daily announcement about the stock of medical oxygen, availability of Remdesivir and Covid vaccines.

The opposition leaders also questioned why the state government is refusing to impose any restrictions on travellers entering Goa even with Maharashtra declaring Goa to be a “place for sensitive origin”.

Coming down heavily over the inefficient approach of the state government to curb Covid surge, Goa Pradesh Youth Congress demanded that state government should immediately make RT-PCR test mandatory for those entering in Goa.

Goa Pradesh Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar said that due to the inefficiency of the government to combat COVID-19 State has turned into an ‘exporter’ of COVID.

Highlighting the Maharashtra government’s SOP which has termed Goa as a place of sensitive origin pertaining to the Covid 19 pandemic Mardolkar said that the government has created this situation.

When other states are making RT-PCR test mandatory to enter in their state why Goa is not doing so when the positive cases and Covid fatalities are increasing day by day.

Madolkar also demanded that the government should declare GMC’s Super specialty block as a COVID hospital.

Mardorlkar questioned why there are no restrictions on the crowds in Casinos when there are restrictions on wedding and other gatherings.

Mardolkar urged government to prevent spread of virus in rural areas. "At present these cases are only seen in towns, hence we need to take care that COVID doesn’t spread in villages.” he said.
