VASCO
At one time, Vasco was a hotspot for Covid cases and a number of containment zones were declared in the port town. Dengue cases had also been of concern among health officials in the taluka.
However, Covid cases have dropped in recent weeks and is now in single digits, with eight active cases being reported in the health media bulletin released on Saturday.
Chicalim Dub District Hospital Health Officer and Medical Superintendent Dr Anil Umraskar told reporters that medical staff has been able to handle the few cases of dengue and Covid in the hospital.
“The Covid situation is well under control and we have a lot of people arriving at the hospital for checks and tests. We even have people from surrounding areas and travellers coming for checking and we carry out around an average of 100 tests per day. Nevertheless, we are continuously testing people on a daily basis at the hospital,” said Umraskar.
“There many dengue cases being reported in the hospital, especially with the onset of monsoons. At times, dengue cases were severe and we even had to refer some patients to the GMC for further treatment.”
“However, the situation has now changed. While cases are on the decline, the intensity of these cases has also come down. As of now, we are capable of taking care of patients and treating them in the hospital,” said Dr Umraskar.
