The Indian Meteorological Office (IMO) has notified that rainfall and thunderstorms triggered by the low pressure area in the Arabian Sea will continue until Sunday.
Thunderstorms with lightning, short intense spells and winds of speed around 40-50kmph are very likely at a few places in Goa and at isolated places on Sunday, a press release issued by the Met Department said.
It also said that heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in both North Goa and South Goa districts.
The press release added that thunderstorm clouds are present over Sanguem and Dharbandora talukas and these are moving in the westerly direction.
The press release reiterated its warning asking people to avoid open areas and fields or taking shelter under trees and other tall structures when lightning and rain occurs.
On Friday, thunderstorms which the weather observatory had forewarned disrupted the intra-State power grid.
The Goa Electricity Department's substation in Amona was damaged after it was struck by heavy lighting.
Fire at the sub-station also spread into areas around the facility but fortunately there was no human casualty.
