MARGAO
Even as the State authorities insist on compliance of Covid-19 pandemic protocols in both letter and spirit in public places, the Covid norms seemed to have gone for a toss behind the Margao Municipal building “ considered the unofficial meeting place for migrant labourers.
Even as the Margao Municipality, besides citizens had officially lodged complaints with the police and other authorities complaining of the large presence of migrant labour behind the MMC building, sources informed that no authority has cracked a whip against those violating the Covid norms with impunity.
A city-based doctor had recently made a plea to the authorities to ensure the migrant labourers loitering at the traffic island behind the Margao Municipal building wear face masks and maintain social distancing. The ground reality, however, remains unchanged, with those frequenting the island throwing the Covid norms to the winds.
Questions are being raised why the Margao Municipality has not cracked a whip against those not wearing masks and not maintaining social distancing right under its very nose when the Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes had in the past issued directions to the market inspectors to crack a whip against the violators.
Citizens have also raised questions why the men-in-uniform has not initiated against the people loitering in public places around traffic islands and gardens when the Covid norms mandate citizens to wear face masks and maintain social distancing in public places.
