Salcete Mamlatdar, Talathis and Booth Level Officer from the taluka have been entrusted with the job which deviates from their routine duties “ track down all the UK returned people from the taluka and take them for Covid testing.
Around 400 persons from Salcete had recently returned from the UK, of which around 350 have been identified and got tested, while efforts are underway to get the remaining tested for the Covid virus.
Sources in the know informed that of the 350 persons tested from Salcete, around 28-30 persons might have tested positive for Coronavirus amongst the UK returnees.
A day after a father-daughter duo from Shiroda had virtually fled from the Margao ESI hospital, the designated institutional quarantine centre for UK-returned Covid positive persons, the authorities have reportedly held out the threat to impound their passports if they do not cooperate with implementation of SOPs for such persons.
Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar informed that the authorities will move for impounding passports of the UK returnees in case they don't cooperate with the agencies. “This is a pandemic and everyone should cooperate. Otherwise, the authorities will crack a whip by impounding their passports”, he warned.
The Salcete Mamlatdar and his team of officials, comprising of talathis and BLOs, have been on the job to track down the UK returned persons from Salcete over the last couple of days no sooner the office received a list of the passengers from the office of the district Collector.
Commenting on the father-daughter duo, who had left the ESI hospital on Monday, the Mamlatdar said the duo were at their house at Shiroda when the team of officials descended there on Monday evening.
Given that the duo later returned back to the ESI hospital on Monday evening, Prataprao said the authorities will not initiate action against the duo for violating Section 144 of the Cr P C.
