Parts of Benaulim facing water shortage is a big lie: Churchill

MARGAO
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Tuesday asserted that claims that parts of Benaulim village is facing water shortage is a big lie, saying that no one had till date brought to his notice there parts of the village were facing water scarcity.

PWD engineers, AE Prasad S JE Pravin Desai also told the media that there’s no water shortage in Benaulim village, adding that there may have been low water pressure for some days due to water supply problem from the main pipeline.

Addressing the media in the presence of Benaulim acting Sarpanch Nilesh Prabhudesai, the Benaulim MLA said no one has brought to his notice or to the notice of the Benaulim panchayat or the PWD engineers that Odlembhat and Perodem in Benaulim village are facing water shortage for a year now.

He was reacting to the claims made by Aam Aadmi Party leader Capt Wenzy Viegas that people of Perodem and Odlembhat have been denied of regular water supply since the last one year. “No one from the area had brought to my notice there’s water shortage in these areas. I have checked with the Panchayat and the PWD water supply office, and they say they have not come across any compliant of water shortage in these areas,” Churchill said, while it is a big lie that I did not attend to the water woes faced by the residents.

Saying he is on the ground 24x7 attending to the public grievances, Churchill said God will take care of those who have spread lies that he did not attend to people facing water scarcity.

When asked he is feeling the heat from AAP after the party’s victory in the ZP polls, Churchill shot back saying “you will come to know in the Assembly election. When AAP won the ZP election, I had absolutely no problem. Now let us wait and see in the coming Assembly election”, he added.

The two PWD engineers said there was some problem in the area for 4-5 days because of low water pressure, adding that there’s no need to replace the pipeline, since the department had already replaced the line with a plastic pipeline.

Acting Benaulim Sarpanch Nilesh Prabhudesai has said he had checked up with the panchayat to find out whether any complaint was received over the water shortage, but there was no such correspondence lying in the Panchayat body.
