With Margao ESI again housing Covid patients, hospital logistics struggling to keep pace with demand

MARGAO
The Margao ESI hospital is playing host to 46 UK returned persons who had tested positive for Coronavirus after their return home.

As per the SOP in place, these 46 persons have been housed in the ESI hospital, which has been notified as the institutional quarantine centre for the UK returned persons. Most of these positive persons are asymptomatic, but they will be housed in the hospital till their test report comes from the Pune laboratory, which will shed light whether any of them have the mutant strain.

ESI Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Vishwajit Faldesai informed that around 46 Covid positive persons, who had returned from the UK, have been quarantined in the hospital as on Tuesday. “They are not patients in the strict sense of the term since most of them are asymptomatic. They are being housed in the ESI which has been designated as an institutional quarantine centre for UK returned persons,” he said.

With Covid patients being housed in the ESI hospital with each passing day, the logistics seemed to have not kept pace with the requirements in the hospital.

While the ESI management was looking forward for the government to depute team of doctors and paramedics to look after the positive cases, the hospital has only received five nurses from the South Goa district hospital as on Tuesday.

The ESI hospital had relieved the health care workers, including the doctors and paramedics after the South Goa district hospital was designated as a major Covid hospital, with sources in the know now saying the government should send back the manpower to meet the requirements.
