Covid softens grip over State as infections drop further; 28 new deaths in 24 hrs

The State on Sunday recorded 28 Covid related deaths while the new cases of the infection dropped to 645 from among 3,242 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate stood at 19.19 per cent. 

This is the first time in the last one and half months that the daily positivity rate has fallen below the 20 per cent-mark.

While the total Covid fatalities have touched 2,625 in the state, the active caseload has further improved to 14,010. The recovery rate has risen to 89.27 per cent.

VACCINATION DRIVE DRAGS 

PANAJI: Meanwhile, only 39 beneficiaries from the 45 years and above age group stepped out to receive the second dose of the Covid vaccine on Sunday. The state government has vaccinated only 96,051 persons fully to date while 3,22,248 have been given the first dose. 

The government presently has a surplus of over 2.5 lakh Covid vaccine doses for the 45 and above age group and 6,360 Covid vaccine doses from the allotment received for the 18 to 44 years age group.
