Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the economically weaker families, whose breadwinners had fallen victim to Covid-19, will be entitled to a Rs 2 lakh ex gratia assistance from the State government.
Sawant made this announcement during his address to Goans on Statehood Day.
Sawant said the Goa government will give Rs 2 lakh to economically weaker families whose earning members have expired because of Covid-19.
Children orphaned will also be given assistance, he said.
A scheme to pay a monthly stipend to orphaned children will be made effective soon. Such children studying in class X and higher will be given laptops, Sawant said.
The Chief Minister also said that the stipend given to orphans in child care institutions which they were entitled to up to the age of 18-years will now be paid till they attain the age of 21 years.
The State government will also implement all the Covid relief and compensation schemes of the Centre in Goa.
All eligible beneficiaries in Goa will also get the benefit of all the schemes announced by the Centre, he said.
Meanwhile, Sawant said financially weak panchayats in Goa will get Rs 50,000 for use as Covid or Cyclone relief.
This money will be disbursed to these financially weaker panchayats by Monday or Tuesday, Sawant said.
On Covid-19 vaccination, Sawant said parents of kids under two years will be put on the ‘priority list’ as also seafarers, rickshaw and taxi drivers, persons with co-morbidities and disability soon.
