Even as the Health department is gearing up for round two of the Covid vaccination on Friday and Saturday, the number of health care workers who experienced minor symptoms after receiving the Covid jab at Margao has touched 28.
Sources informed that around 33 per cent of the health care workers have now experienced the flu-like symptoms, including fever, headache etc.
Health officials coordinating the vaccination at the Hospicio hospital informed that the condition of the 28 health care workers shows signs of improvement.
A total of 83 health care workers including 53 doctors from Hospicio hospital, Margao had volunteered to take the Covid vaccine on January 16. While two persons had experienced the side effects on day one itself, the figure later increased to 10 on Sunday.
Health officials have now informed that a number of health care workers have now informed that they too experienced side effects, including flu-like symptoms. “As of date, a total of 28 health care workers who received the vaccine on Saturday have reported minor side effects”, a senior official informed.
However, the side effects have been termed as minor and the situation did not warrant hospitalization of any of the affected health care workers.
Of the three health care workers, who have experienced serious side effects, including one who developed rash on the body, while the second worker had an extreme body ache. The third health care reported fever with temperature above normal.
‘We are constantly monitoring the health condition of the health care workers. Some of the health care workers, including doctors and nurses managed themselves at home when they developed flu-like symptoms”, officials said.
To a question, an official pointed out that many a health care worker did not report the side effects on Sunday, since they were minor in nature and have informed about the same when they reported for work.
Meanwhile, Hospicio health officials are gearing up for the second round of Covid vaccination on two days, Friday and Saturday for the health workers.
“We are putting the system in place. Our plan was to first vaccinate the Hospicio health care workers. We would see whether to include health workers attached to the Margao Urban Health Centre for the vaccination on these two days”, informed a health official.
