A day after mysterious cracks surfaced on the road at Calvaddo-Benaulim on Friday, officials and workers of the company laying the gas pipeline in the village were called to the site to help ascertain the cause behind the episode.
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, who descended at the site on Saturday, called the officials and workers of the company entrusted with the job of laying gas pipeline in the area.
The MLA, who inspected the site on Saturday morning, admitted that cracks could be seen on the road for some metres. During his inquiry, the MLA was told that a resident of an adjoining house saw eruption of sand before the road had developed cracks.
He told the media that the officials of the company laying the gas pipeline has been called by him to find out whether the cracks had anything to do with any pressure build up in the line, resulting in the incident.
The incident had occurred on Friday evening when an inmate of the adjoining house saw an eruption of sand, followed by cracks on the road side. After Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Pereira intimated the matter to the Colva police, PI Theron D’Costa later alerted the taluka district disaster management cell headed by Deputy Collector Uday Prabhudesai.
