Crime Branch summons GMC doc for quizzing in body swap bloomer

PANAJI: The Crime branch which is investigating the body swap bloomer at the State's apex hospital in Bambolim, has summoned the suspended head of forensic medicine Dr Edmund Rodrigues for questioning on Wednesday morning.
“Dr Edmund Rodrigues has been told to be present at the Crime branch office on Wednesday morning at 11,” informed a crime branch official.
It may be recalled that after the body of footballer Januz Gonsalves went missing from the Goa Medical College mortuary, allegedly disposed off by the CCP along with three unclaimed bodies, the State government handed over the investigations to the Crime Branch. The Agassaim police had earlier registered a case of negligence against Dr Edmund Rodrigues and two staffers -- Machindra Jalmi and Prakash Narvekar who have now been placed under suspension.
While the government is under severe criticism over the bizzare incident, the NGOs and opposition parties are thirsting for the resignation of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane who ordered the suspension of the concerned officers and later met with the family members of the deceased.
