Crime Branch traces ganja supply chain to Odisha, 1 arrested

PANAJI:  The Crime Branch on Thursday arrested a 29-year-old Odisha native for allegedly supplying 10.754 kg of ganja seized in Goa last month. The arrest comes nearly three weeks after two persons were arrested in connection with the seizure. The accused, Nakula Naik, was arrested following an investigation into the seizure made on September 25. The contraband was valued at around Rs 10.50 lakh. In the case, the Crime Branch had arrested Gokula Jena, 24, also a native of Odisha, and apprehended a 17-year-old boy. “The investigation team pursued the source of the contraband and, through technical surveillance and coordination with Odisha Police, identified Naik as the alleged supplier. A team travelled to Rayagada and, with assistance from personnel of Doraguda police station, traced and arrested Naik. He was subsequently brought to the Crime Branch police station at Ribandar for further investigation,” the Crime Branch said. The team is now probing the supply chain to identify others who may have been involved in the trafficking of the contraband.
