Car catches fire at Assolda
CURCHOREM: A 26-year-old man from Davorlim had a lucky escape after the car in which he was travelling caught fire on Thursday.
According to sources from Quepem Police, Atif Nazir Lohar was travelling in his car (GA-08-E-8865) from Curchorem to Chandor when it caught fire near the Assolda Panchayat. Lohar made quick escape after witnessing the fire.
The cause of fire was not known. The police said the car driver was not injured, but the car was damaged.
3 two-wheelers gutted in Khorlim
MAPUSA: Three two-wheelers were gutted in fire in Khorlim on early Thursday morning. Mapusa Police have registered an offence against unknown persons over the incident.
Fire brigade sources informed that two scooters belonged to Suhas Gad and one to Pritam Walke.
Sources said that unknown persons set the two-wheelers on fire at around 2.30 am near the government primary school at Khorlim, Mapusa.
Before the fire brigade could reach the spot, all three scooters were gutted in the fire.
Fire destroys plantation
BICHOLIM: A plantation was destroyed in a fire at Harvalem-Sakhali on Thursday evening. According to reports, the fire caught the dry leaves and grass and it engulfed the entire area. Fire brigades form Bicholim, Valpoi and Pernem were pressed into service.
Labourer assaulted
BICHOLIM: Two businessmen from Sakhali allegedly assaulted a worker of Sakhali Municipal Council (SMC), while he was clearing the encroachment in the main market area on Thursday.
The workers have lodged a complaint at Bicholim Police station against two shopkeepers in this connection. According to information, SMC Chief Officer Jitendra Bugde had told the labourers to clear the roadside encroachments. When some labourers started clearing the encroachments, two businessmen allegedly assaulted a worker, Dnyneshwar Malik while he was clearing their encroachments.
