PANAJI
The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday alleged that the government wants to push through the CRZ amendments without people’s participation and by keeping them in the dark.
The party has filed a complaint with the Anti Corruption Bureau against authorities concerned which it alleged have failed to carry out the exercise of getting the coastal panchayats and the municipalities to debate on the proposed amendments and allowed the last date of filing objections to lapse. AAP has demanded an investigation into the matter.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, AAP convenor Elvis Gomes said the authorities on whom a responsibility was cast to allow discussions on the proposed amendments in the coastal panchayats and municipalities had not even cared to send a copy to
these bodies, leave alone allow discussion.
It was clear that there was pressure on the authorities to somehow allow by default the CRZ amendments to go through without people’s participation. In the state every decision is taken to meet the greed of rich invaders and not the need of the common man, Gomes chided.
AAP leader on environment Siddharth Karapurkar while welcoming the CM’s return to the state severely criticised the approach of the government on the issue and said that on one hand the houses of poor fishermen were being demolished for being too close to the sea and on the other hand, the government was trying to satisfy the greed of big-time hoteliers and casino operators to capture more and more prime beach properties without any concern for the consequences that
will follow.
AAP’s women front leader Soniya Naik Dessai said in a complaint made with ACB they have particularly highlighted the acts of omission on the part of the Director of Panchayats
and Municipalities.
