Even as the Congress and Goa Forward party has stitched an alliance to fight the 2022 Assembly polls, a Cuncolim Municipal councillor Udesh Dessai, owing allegiance to the Congress-backed panel has on Thursday joined the Goa Forward Party.
Udesh had got elected on the Congress-backed panel floated by Yuri Alemao in the polls for the Cuncolim Municipal Council. The young councillor was in the news recently after his running battle with the Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Laximan Naik on a host of issues.
Briefing the media, Udesh said he has joined the Goa Forward since it is the only party that is fighting for the cause of Goa.
“I come from a village of Cuncolim, which had fought a sustained battle against the Portuguese to save the village and the state. Our freedom fighter late Shabu Desai, who had taken a fight to oppose Goa’s merger with Maharashtra along with Dr Jack de Sequeira has been my inspiration. At a time when many political parties have set up shop in the state, I think Goa Forward is the only party which has the interest of Goa at heart”, he added.
“Goa Forward has come out with the concept of Team Goa, not just to forge an alliance with like-minded parties, but to protect Goa from destruction”, he added.
