Locals led by Pradip Kakodkar and Adv Sanjit Dessai have filed a formal complaint at the Curchorem Police Station, alleging negligence in ongoing road development works in and around Curchorem constituency.
They have blamed the contractor, along with the Public Works Department (PWD) and GSIDC authorities, for putting public safety at risk.
The complaint comes after a series of accidents in the area, including the recent death of 18-year-old Jesval Diniz in a road mishap near Ravindra Bhavan, which has raised serious concerns about road safety.
The complainants said basic safety rules were ignored during the work. They pointed to the lack of barricades, warning signs and proper traffic control. They added that dug-up and uneven roads have made conditions dangerous for both motorists and pedestrians.
The complainants warned that continued negligence and failure to follow safety norms could lead to more serious incidents if immediate action is not taken. They also questioned the lack of accountability and supervision by the authorities concerned. Residents have demanded strict action against those responsible. They have urged authorities to enforce safety rules, ensure proper execution of works, and take urgent steps to protect the public.
