Worried about the growing drug problem in Curchorem, local residents have filed a complaint at the Curchorem Police Station, highlighting a sharp rise in drug-related activities in the area. Residents said some parts of Curchorem have become hotspots for drug peddling and use, especially in the late evening hours. They added that the presence of drug users and peddlers has created fear and insecurity, particularly among women, children and senior citizens. The complainants also said that easy access to narcotic substances is affecting local youth, raising concerns about addiction and related crimes.
They have urged the police to increase patrolling, identify those involved and take strict action against drug offenders. They also called for efforts to break any networks operating in and around the town. Locals further demanded coordinated action by law enforcement agencies, including surveillance in suspected areas, regular raids and awareness drives to control drug abuse. They warned that if quick and effective steps are not taken, the situation could worsen and pose a serious threat to the social fabric of the region.
