Panchayat acts after court nod to remove structures
PONDA
The Curti-Khandepar panchayat on Friday demolished illegal structures on panchayat land. Sarpanch Nilkanth Naik, Panchas Bhika Kerkar and Babu Chari were present at the site as heavy machinery was deployed to demolish the structures.
According to reports, a person had set up illegal structures on panchayat land in Ward 11 at Zingdimal. The structures included some shops and even some rooms which had been rented out to people.
The Panchayat then issued a notice to the person, but he did not comply with the notice and the panchayat approached the court. After 12 years, the court permitted the panchayat to clear the illegal structures, prompting the panchayat to take action in the matter.
When contacted, Curti-Khandepar Sarpanch Nilkanth Naik said the land belonged to the Panchayat and there had been plans to implement some projects in the space. Added Panch Bhika Kerkar: “We had tried to demolish these structures 12 years ago. But the person who erected the illegal structures had gone to court and had obtained a stay. As soon as the verdict came in our favour, we took action.”
“There are similar cases in some other places in the village. Land has been illegally occupied and illegal structures have been built on it. We will take action on all these illegal structures within the framework of the law. This matter has been discussed repeatedly in the Gram Sabha.”
