MARGAO
Against the backdrop of the Congress’ poor showing in Salcete, where the party could manage to win just three seats, Curtorim came in as a big consolation as the party candidate Michelle Rebello romped home to victory by a massive 3590 vote margin.
In the four-cornered contest, Michelle polled 5349 votes as against 1387 votes polled by her nearest Aam Aadmi Party candidate, Brinda Minguelina Silva. Andrea Fernandes (1751) and NCP’s Sarita Fernandes (910) were the other candidates in the fray.
After her victory, Michele attributed the victory to the hard work put in by the workers in Curtorim, Macazana and Areal. She also thanked her husband and outgoing ZP Moreno Rebello.
When asked whether Curtorim MLA had supported her candidature, Michelle said she does not know since she was busy moving door to door during the campaigning. She, however, said that South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha was instrumental in giving her the ticket for the Curtorim ZP seat.
