Residents of Curtorim constituency assembled at the Sonsodo-Raia road to condemn the statement made by MLA Reginaldo Lourenco against the Raia panchayat and plans to install CCTV cameras to bring the road under scanner.
Raia Sarpanch Minguelina D’Souza along with Panchayat members, Curtorim deputy Sarpanch Simon Barretto, ex-Curtorim ZP member Moreno Rebello, BJP ST leader Anthony Barbosa descended on the road on Wednesday evening to pooh-pooh the claims made by the MLA.
In fact, Moreno blamed the three-time Curtorim MLA for the garbage woes facing the entire constituency, saying the MLA ought to have intervened to get a garbage treatment plant for the constituency.
In fact, Moreno pointed out that Curtorim village cannot get land to set up a MRF facility, when the village plays host to three lakh square metres of land which once played host to the leprosy hospital. “The MLA should have taken the initiative to get a centralized waste treatment plant for Curtorim constituency, but he failed to do so in the last 15 years,” he added.
On Reginaldo’s claim to install CCTV cameras along the road to bring waste dumping under the scanner, Raia Sarpanch Minguelina D’Souza pointed out that the panchayat had got the sanction from the panchayat authorities for eight CCTV cameras. “We have not only got the sanction, but the cameras will be put in place in the coming days”, she said.
BJP ST leader Anthony Barbosa said the Curtorim MLA should stop fooling the people by showing that he has taken the initiative to install the CCTV cameras.
“The CCTV camera project is the initiative of the Raia panchayat, but it is shocking that Reginaldo has claimed he is putting the cameras. The people of Curtorim constituency very well know that Reginaldo has done nothing to resolve the garbage mess facing the constituency”, he said.
