Residents of Curtorim, Sao Jose de Areal and neighbouring areas on Friday hit the roads to protest against the dilapidated condition of the road from Housing Board to Ramnagar, Curtorim and Chandor.

Led by ex-Curtorim Zilla Panchayat member Moreno Rebello and Curtoirm deputy Sarpanch Simon Baretto, Areal sarpanch Minguel Gomes and others, the protestors slammed the authorities for its failure to take up the upkeep and maintenance of the crucial road.

Moreno pointed out that the road turns unmotorable every year during monsoon, demanding to know why the PWD has not carried out road engineering to bring a lasting solution to the problem. “When this road becomes unmotorable with huge craters, it is the bounden duty of the PWD to take correct measures and save the tax payers money”, he said.

Curtorim deputy Sarpanch Simon said the local MLA should also take note of the grievances of the travelling public and take up the road repair work on a war footing. He said the people will again hit the road if the PWD fails to repair the road within 10 days.
