After the meeting held at the Cutbona fishing jetty, society member Vinay Tari told the media that the members of the society, including the traditional fishermen and boat owners, have vehemently opposed the proposed minor port at Betul.
He pointed out that the port at Betul will adversely affected the livelihood of the traditional fishermen eking out a living on marine resources. Tari further pointed out that the port will have an effect on the human habitation, right from Betul to Khola, and wondered why the proposal has raised its ugly head again when people have rejected it.
The port has come under strong opposition from local MLA, Betul gram sabha, villagers of Betul and the gram sabha of Cavelossim.
