Cutting-edge healthcare technologies discussed at INK conference

The ongoing INK conference at Grand Hyatt saw some of the most cutting-edge products and technologies being discussed, which will help in taking the healthcare to the bottom-most strata of society. Such solutions can be of immense importance to countries like India, wherein the last mile connectivity of healthcare is poor.
Dale Fox, co-Founder & CEO, Tribogenics said, “As many as 3 billion people around the world don’t have access to X-Ray technology. And, even today X-Rays are made the way they were made nearly a 100 years ago using bulky machines.”
Tribogenics has come out with solutions, which will allow portable devices to do X-Ray thereby eliminating the need of huge machines for the same. Meanwhile, Fox also said that this new technology will be available at a fraction of the cost of traditional equipment.
Fox also gave the example of a product called ‘MODIS’ which Tribogenics has developed. MODIS is a portable X-Ray machine designed for on-site imaging. Such machines can be used by medical staff in hospitals in hinterland in India, where access of traditional X-Ray technology is not available.
INK Conference has actually brought speakers from around the world to discuss and present their ideas on a range of issues including healthcare.
One of the other presenters was Pratik Shah, who is a Fellow at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard/ Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. Shah said, “Majority of people die due to infectious diseases, which are very much preventable, detectable and treatable. Therefore, the technology in healthcare should definitely help the people at the bottom of society, who don’t have access to healthcare facilities.”
He continued, “Our body has biomarkers. You can image them which helps in diagnosis of diseases without using blood or urine. We have developed a paper diagnostic strip, which can help in detection of oral cancer by checking saliva.”
The idea behind all these technologies is to make diagnosis a lot easier physically and even financially for people, which will eventually improve the access of healthcare.
