Two fire tenders from the headquarters of the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services and one tender from the Panaji fire station worked for almost an hour from 4.20 pm to 5.20 pm to bring the fire under control.
DFES informed that property worth Rs four lakh was damaged while the fire fighters succeeded in saving property worth Rs 10 lakh. One of the six hutments was completely destroyed while the other five sustained severe damages.
It was learnt that the owners of the hutment where the blast occurred were attending a marriage ceremony and the home was locked at the time of the incident. As a result, the exact cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained, though the fire control personnel suspect that it
was a short circuit near the cylinders which caused
the blast.
