It will be double whammy for consumers in Bardez on Sunday, as the electricity department’s power shutdown will also result in a water cut in the taluka.
The water department has said that water supply will be affected for two days, May 28 and 29, at several places in Bardez.
The electricity department has arranged a power shutdown for entire Bardez and Pernem talukas on May 28 from 7 am to 4 pm.
The general shutdown has been arranged for annual pre-monsoon maintenance works at 220/110/33/11KV substation at Tivim.
The water department in a notice has warned consumers that there will be no water supply to Porvorim, Britona, Saligao, Candolim, Sinquerim, Verem, Betim, Nerul, Calangute, Baga, Pilerne, Pilerne Industrial Estate, Mapusa, Aldona, Nachinola, Ucassaim, Bastora, Guirim, Parra, Verla-Canca, Arpora, Nagoa, Pomburpa-Olaulim and its vicinity on May 28-29 due to urgent maintenance work at Tivim power
sub-station.
According to the water department, there will be no production of water at Assonora water supply plant due to the power shutdown.
Though the electricity department has taken power shutdown in Bardez and Pernem, the department has made arrangement not to disrupt supply to Assonora water work, which will, get supply from Bicholim taluka.
“Although Assonora water works will get power from Bicholim, it will not be enough to keep our seven pumps running. With that power supply only two or three pumps will be working and we won’t be able to pump enough water,” said V M Chavan, EE, PWD (water division) confirming the water cuts in Bardez.
