Rachith, Santosh set up title clash

Rachith will clash with Santosh in the men's singles final of Cidade de Goa Open tennis tournament. Rachith has had a fine run in the tournament so far and won his semi-final against Vibhu 6-0,6-2 to comfortably book his place in the finals. In the second semi-final, Santosh beat Bulu 6-2,2-6,10-7 to set up an exciting final, which will be played on Sunday.

In the women's singles action, Simran beat Ibtsam 6-3,6-1 and will play Saumya in the final. The men’s doubles semi-finals saw Rachith and Tejas beat the team of Stan and Ashely 6-2,6-1. In the second semi-final, Nathan and Bulu took on Raju and Nagesh and won 6-2,6-3.

The mixed doubles produced an entertaining final as Bulu and Charmaine won 6-3,6-2 against Santosh and Melanie. In the veterans singles category, Surresh beat Manoj to win the final 7-6,6-3 while in the veterans doubles match Kevin and David are favourites to lift the trophy.

In the U-12 category (boys) Arnav won against Felix (4-1, 4-2), while Rutuja won against Simran (4-2,4-1) in the U-12 (girls) category. Similarly in the U-16 (boys) Werner went up against Arlindo (6-0,6-3) to win the top spot with Arlindo taking the runners up.

The third edition of the Cidade de Goa Open, organised in association with the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA) and Cidade de Goa, is being held for the last two weeks. This year’s tournament saw over 90 entries from participants across age groups.

The tournament included ten categories “ under-12 (girls and boys), under-16 (girls and boys), men’s singles, ladies singles, men’s doubles, mix doubles, seniors singles and seniors doubles. With tennis gaining popularity the objective of the Cidade de Goa Open is to promote tennis and continue to offer a platform to budding tennis players across the state. The tournament players were offered the tennis courts and other facilities at Cidade de Goa. The winners and runners-up trophies will be handed out by the chief guest Neeta Brid, general manager of Cidade de Goa.
