Gas pipeline taken up without taking locals into confidence: Ravi

Accusing the State and Central governments of working like dictators, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik said the work of laying natural gas pipeline has been started without taking the people into confidence.

PONDA

Addressing a news conference on Friday, Naik hit out at the agency and the government for keeping him in the dark over the natural gas pipeline work. “I was not invited for the launching programme. The work was launched by MP Adv Narendra Sawaikar. How such projects could start without taking the people into confidence,” he asked.
Sawaikar had launched the work on the project on Monday. The pipeline will cover 25 kms in the city and will be commissioned after one year.
Naik also took a dig at K K Sachdeva, CEO of Goa Natural Gas Pvt Ltd, for not presenting the project to the Ponda people. “We don’t know how this project will work and from where the gas will be supplied. Is this the way to start such projects,” Naik questioned.   The pipeline, popularly known as ‘Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga’, is carried out in Goa by Goa Natural Gas Pvt Ltd (joint venture of GAIL Gas Limited and BPCL).
“It is evident that both the govts are behaving like dictators. They should not do what they like, they should do what people want,” he said.   “Now, the rains will start and how they will work in this condition,” he questioned.
