Life in Bardez taluka has been disrupted due to heavy rains for the last two days. Walls of three houses collapsed, trees fell on seven houses, and water entered the Taleshwar Rashtraoli temple at Colvale.
In the last two days alone, the fire services received a total of 25 calls in different parts of Bardez taluka. Of these, 20 calls were registered at the Mapusa fire station.
A wall of the house of Raghunath Ratabole collapsed at Matwawado in Penha de Franca, while a wall of the house of the Tendulkar family collapsed at Feira Baixa, Mapusa. A wall of the house belonging to Pandharinath Kalangutkar collapsed in Titavado-Nerul.
The rear portion of a house belonging to Goltekar collapsed in Gavasawada-Mapusa, and the entire structure has developed cracks. There are fears that this house may collapse at any moment.
Besides, trees fell on seven houses in Guirim, Parra, Khorlim, Colvale, and Assagao. Three of the trees were cut and removed by the fire brigade personnel. The house owners were advised to cut the other four trees through skilled persons. Trees also fell on roads and damaged electricity wires in Guirim, Assagao, Anjuna, Parra, Siolim, Tivim, Carona-Aldona, Altinho-Mapusa, Dattawadi-Mapusa, Pilerne, Pomburpa, Paithon, and Porvorim. Fire personnel from Mapusa, Pilerne, and Porvorim fire stations later cleared these trees.
Due to a blockage at a drain in Koniwada Colvale, rainwater entered the Shree Taleshwar Rashtraoli temple.
During the widening of the highway, a canal to connect the river was not constructed, and due to a lack of proper drainage, the area is now submerged underwater.
