SANGUEM
Several roads were inundated since Monday morning following continuous rains in Sanguem, Quepem and Curchorem, putting residents into a great deal of hardship.
The people faced difficult times in reaching to their work places, after traffic was diverted due to the submerged roads in many parts of Sanguem and Quepem talukas.
At Dando, the road leading to Xeldem, Orcotto and Molcornem remained flooded throughout the day, cutting off people residing on the other side of the road.
The people were compelled to stay indoors as the only alternate route to travel to Sanguem would be via Cacora, an additional 12 kilometres.
The submerged road also led to a total halt in traffic to Xelpem Industrial Estate, severely affecting production at the estate for the day.
The main road between Quepem and Margao got submerged at Paroda after the Kushawati river continued to flow extensively throughout the day.
Traffic to Sanguem, Quepem and Margao was diverted via Assolda and Chandor making officegoers suffer to a large extent.
The situation at Assolda remained grim with water level of the Kushawati river rising every moment, prompting authorities to deploy policemen to caution citizens.
Several cases of tree falling were also reported in and around Quepem.
At Sanvordem, people residing along the river bank at Mirabag had to remain in constant fears of increasing water level of Zuari river as the water had almost reached their houses.
The agricultural plantation all along the Zuari river had however gone under water. With rivers getting flooded, water entered the plantations all along the river bed at Sanguem, Curchorem and Quepem.
While no immediate losses are reported to households and agricultural plantations, people living in the hinterland areas and those having their plantations along the river bank are likely to face heavy losses.
