Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday stated that daily wage workers working with municipalities for over 7 years would be given temporary status with fair monetary compensation.
Presenting his budget in the Assembly, Sawant stated that Rs 452.68 crore has been allotted for municipalities in the State.
He also informed that Rs 96.95 crore worth projects would commence in 2025-26 under Amrut 2.0. This consists of water source augmentation and improvement of distribution line of Curchorem town including O&M of 5 years (Rs 22.57 crore), improvement and upgradation of 15 MLD WTP at Dabose in Valpoi municipal area including O&M of 5 years (Rs 22.89 crore) and Augmentation and improvement of water distribution system in Mapusa municipal area. including O&M of 5 years (Rs 51.49 crore)
He also announced that Rs 55 crore has been allotted for the Integrated Development of Major Towns (IDMT) Scheme, while Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for slum redevelopment.
As far as Panaji is concerned, the chief minister said projects worth Rs 423.61 crore would commence in 2025-26 under the Smart City Mission, while Rs 135 crore has been assigned for CITIIS 2.0 for Panaji.
Sawant also stated that 6,000 Smart Water Meters would be set up in Panaji to save 12.19 crore liters of water per annum, while the 18 June road, Dr Atmaram Borker road and Pandurang Pissurlekar road in Panaji would be concretised in Panaji.
He also informed that the number of Smart Poles and Smart Illumination Luminaries would be raised to 3,500.
The chief minister informed that a new Mopa City would be established under the Mopa Airport Development Authority, while the repair of the heritage building of the Margao Municipality would be undertaken.
