The South Goa Sessions Court has adjourned the hearing and passing of the order on the anticipatory bail plea of Margao businessman and thinker Datta Damodar Naik to January 13.
In the meantime, Datta’s lawyer, Adv Cleofato Coutinho Almeida, told the media that Datta made his appearance before the Canacona Police on Friday morning, as per the notice issued by the police to join the investigations in the FIR registered against him for hurting religious sentiments.
The South Goa Sessions Court was scheduled to pass its order on Datta’s anticipatory bail application on Friday afternoon. When the matter came up for hearing, Datta’s lawyer, Adv Cleofato, submitted a pen drive before the court containing Datta’s interview given to a TV channel in which he had made certain statements about temples and mutts.
Datta, in his anticipatory bail application, has submitted that it was not his intent to hurt the religious sentiments of anyone by making the statements.
