In the gram sabha held on Sunday, Sarpanch Tulshidas Desai re-iterated the opposition of the gram sabha to the proposed Edu hub, after present locals opposed the same. Desai said the government will first have to meet the infrastructural requirements necessary to cater to this hub and unfold the plan before the villagers. “So long as the infrastructural requirements are not met with regard to the proposed hub, we oppose it,” Desai told the gram sabha while informing that the village panchayat will write to the authorities once again clarity on the hub and the villagers opposition to the same.
Desai claimed that the government has not taken the village panchayat into confidence before deciding on this hub.
Informing the gram sabha that the Collector’s office had only informed them during the site visit, Desai said that the village panchayat is not a party to the talks between the department of Education and the government as regards to the proposed project.
The gram sabha feared that the hub, which has been proposed in survey no 16/1 of Davorlim village, will only end up shifting the congestion from Margao to Davorlim after schools from Margao are shifted to this hub. Desai informed that repeated memorandums to the government regarding opposition to this hub has fallen on deaf ears.
Other issues discussed included the acquisition of land by the railway authorities for doubling of tracks and construction of the overbridge. Desai read out the names of the villagers to whom compensation has been awarded for the loss of land and pegged the total amount at Rs 4.35. Sarpanch Desai also informed the gram sabha that the panchayat has not issued permission to the Electricity department for installation towers pending payment of rent arrears to the panchayat for the premises it uses in the village panchayat building.
