A group of Davorlim villagers stopped the ongoing road hot-mixing works in their locality after they realised that the hot-mixing work is being executed by the authorities without desilting the cross drains or the road side drains.
Local Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro told the contractor to leave the stretch of the road without hot-mixing and to take up the work at the stretch after the completion of the cross drains.
The group led by local activist Andrew Rebello told the contractor to stop the hot-mixing work in the morning, saying that tax payers money would go in the drain if the hot-mixing work is completed without desilting the cross drains. He further said the road side drains are all clogged by the silt from the road, fearing that the adjoining residential houses will be inundated during the rains.
“How can the authorities execute the hot-mixing work when neither the cross drains nor the road side drains remained clogged and awaiting desilting,” he said, adding that the villagers will allow the hot-mixing work only after the completion of the cross drainage.
When contacted, Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said he has told the contractor to stop the hot-mixing work at the particular stretch following request made by the villagers. “The cross drain work was tendered by the panchayat around one year and half ago, but the work is not taken up. Since the villagers have requested not to take up hot-mixing work, the contactor has been told to take up the work at another stretch,” he added.
Faleiro said that many a road in the jurisdiction of Navelim constituency has been left damaged by the laying of sewerage lines.
