MARGAO
Goa Forward party on Wednesday accused BJP leader Damu Naik for allegedly issuing threats to government servants not toeing the ruling party’s line in respect of the ensuing election for the Margao Municipality.
Party Vice-President Durgadas Kamat said the party would lodge a formal complaint with the State Election Commissioner and forward a copy to the Supreme Court, which had set a direction to the SEC to complete the election process within a set deadline.
Addressing the media, Goa Forward vice-president Durgadas Kamat said the response generated amongst the people of Fatorda to the Goa Forward campaign in the ensuing MMC polls has left Vibrant Margao Chairman Damu Naik vibrating. “One can see frustration in the Damu camp as he allegedly goes about issuing threats of transfers to government servants and has even threatened to raze down structures,” Kamat alleged.
Saying that the Goa Forward will not accept any dadagiri from any quarter, he exuded confidence that the people of Fatorda will teach Damu and the BJP a lesson. “The government servants have once again come under the BJP scanner. First, they scrapped the House Building advance and later stalled the promotions, especially in the Police department. Now, they are out to issue threats to government servants not toeing the BJP line in the Municipal elections,” he added.
Claiming that Damu and the BJP are crossing all limits in Fatorda, the Goa Forward vice-president said the party will not accept any dadagiri. “Damu and the BJP should know to respect the mandate of the people. People of Fatorda will decide. The people are shrewd and they will give a befitting reply to the threats via the ballot,” he said, adding ‘it appears that Damu has accepted the defeat in the elections even before the polling’.
