Given that the panchayat has received a file from a resident of Chennai and that the previous panchayat body had approved a 52-apartment residential project in the village, the villagers made it clear to the panchayat authorities that enough is enough and that they will no longer remain silent on the reckless issuance of construction licences for mega housing projects.

As far as the file received by the panchayat body for the construction of 14 residential bungalows is concerned, the sarpanch pointed out that the panchayat has told the party from Chennai to put up a revised plan in view of the deficiencies found in the project.
Villagers led by Andrew Rebello, however, pointed out that Davorlim is facing the garbage menace and other issues because of inadequate infrastructure. "The panchayat body in the past had issued construction licences for projects without taking into account garbage collection and disposal. Today, Davolim is facing a major garbage problem because of inadequate mechanism to handle the waste problem," he said.
Andrew said the villagers will whole-heartedly cooperate with the new panchayat body led by Flancy Gomes, hoping that the panchayat will reciprocate and understand the sentiments of the local people.
